Healthy Mind

It can be really hard to make healthy choices when you're busy and stressed out. A Healthy Mind is one that is well-rested, well-fed, and well-balanced.  We all have some level of stress in our life but we must be able to identify when that stress is affecting our health in a negative way.  We all need to "unwind" sometimes and splurge on some self-care. Everyone's version of a Healthy Mind is not the same. So again there is no one-size-fits-all-plan.   Sometimes you may need is to take a break, read a book, go for a run, paint, clean, or even just drive and in other times your mind is out of balance where medication is required.  All of us have our own battles and our own vices that we use to deal with that stressed-out unhealthy feeling.  A Healthy Mind requires constant maintenance just like the rest of the body.

For some, when they hear Healthy Mind, the thoughts of sitting cross-legged on a mat focusing on your breathing jumps to thought. Others may envision a few extra moments of sleep each night, carving out some self-care just to take a bath, reading a good book by the pool, taking a night class, cleaning, praying, or finding any escape for a few minutes of peace. I love to have coffee with my best friend when my mind feels weighed down.

It's true that you can't change your genetic predisposition to sleep, but when you're getting enough sleep, it will show. Regular sleep schedules are important for many reasons, including the way it affects your mood and weight. You'll feel less stressed and more in control of your life when you get enough sleep. If you're not sure how much is enough, research suggests that seven to nine hours of sleep is best for most people.
